Snow Totals

I've run out of creative titles for blog posts talking about snow. So forget my attempts at humor. The whole point is that it's snowing yet again! And pretty hard. We could have 8" or more by the end of the weekend.

Here's how the snow has added up so far this winter:

October 24"
November 6"
December 77"
January 39"
February to-date (actually to the hour) 4"

That puts us at exactly 150" so far, but that's being added to as I type. It's snowing at approximately an inch per hour right now. Have fun!

Maverick's Picks

Maverick has been doing his faithful duty and investigating the mountain regularly.

Run: Yoohoo is a fun run that's perfect for those just learning to ski trees. It's my recommendation for your first run on a powder day.

Food: I've been taking advantage of the meal deal at the Sunset Grille. Hamburger, fries and a soda for $7.25.

Gear: I got in a fight with a small tree branch ruining the lens on my goggles. But the Alpine Trader saved the day. My new Native goggles are polarized. I might even wear them fishing this summer.

Park Feature: I've been doing my last minute training for Vancouver on the 3 jump line on Maverick. The Olympic committee hasn't returned my phone calls...but I'm sure they're just really busy. Look for me riding with Shaun White!

Apres: On a sunny day I enjoy a frosty glass of Palisade Red Truck out on the deck. Working on my goggle tan.

Useless Trivia

Today at noon we are exactly halfway through the 2009-10 season.

Where does the time go?? Probably to the same place that all the socks go when they disappear from the dryer.

Get out and play, only half the season left!

*Cough* Cough * Gasp*

Day 621 of the inversion...or at least it feels like it.

It's currently 29 degrees in Grand Junction....and 36 degrees at Powderhorn. In addition, our air is clean.

Just something to think about.

The Word is Out

Ah it's good to be back at the mountain. Many of us have been in Denver the last week missing out on all this great snow. I've been told multiple times how good the snow was this weekend. Thanks for rubbing it in.

The word is definitely out all over the state that Powderhorn is the place to be. Tons of people in Denver would tell us how they've heard we have all the snow. Just a couple were slightly hostile telling us to quit hogging it all. Hey, we don't make the decisions on snow allocation!

The Daily Sentinel, Huffington Post, and Aspen Post have all reported on our great conditions. Many people are discovering Powderhorn for the first time! So you locals might have a few more Powderhorn first-timers asking you to show them around. You have our permission to be strategic...keep your stash for yourself.

5th Annual TeleFest - 2010

Still Pushing Pow

Conditions on the mountain are great. If you aren't up here skiing you should be. Thanks to Steve Feller for this video from yesterday.

SIA

A group of us are here in Denver working the SIA snow sports show. It's completely crazy! The show used to be in Las Vegas and is now in its more appropriate home.

Our team of buyers are scoping out next year's gear so we always have the best to offer in the Alpine Trader.

The show isn't open to the public so a bunch of us resorts and bars have gotten together to throw the World's Largest Apres Ski & Ride Party. If you're a Denverite, or just happen to be in town, come to Marlowe's Bar & Restaurant on 16th Street from 5-10pm Friday and Saturday nights for the Powderhorn party. We're giving away lift tickets, snowboards and Loki gear. Plus they have great drink specials going on every hour. You also have a chance to win lift tickets at the Paramount Cafe.

Big Weekend

It's Wednesday night and it just started snowing here in Denver. Doesn't look like it's anything compared to what it's doing at the mountain! Look for a powder day tomorrow! Take some turns for those of us promoting good ol' PH over here at the SIA snow show.

This weekend is the 5th Annual Telefest. It's a full day for the freeheelers! Uphill/Downhill race, professional clinics, party, costumes and plenty of ski time. You also get a discounted lift ticket. Come drop a knee!

Also the Powderhorn Racing Club is putting on the first Town Race on Saturday. Click that link for all the details. This is open to everyone (compete in age groups) with races for skiers, snowboarders and telemark skiers. It'll be a giant slalom on Wonderbump. Proceeds benefit the racing club. Time to settle the score with the buddies...who's faster?

If you're reading this and happen to be a front ranger, come by Marlowe's Restaurant & Bar on the 16th Street Mall Thurs-Saturday nights for the Powderhorn party! Drinks specials, lift ticket giveaways and drawings for weekend stays and Burton snowboard. Follow our Twitter team @SkiPowderhorn
